All-new EUDM Honda Civic - IAA 2011

So, it took a bit longer, but I finally managed to upload some photos I took. The previous-gen model was way better and I really liked it. The new one is just a big failure in my opinion, with the front having some Seat design elements and the rear being simply ugly. In terms of the interior, the quality has been improved, but it has become very complex in terms of design with a lot of lines etc.

All-new EUDM Honda Civic at IAA!

I will be able to upload more live photos very soon, but this is just one of them. The car looks a bit better in the flesh, but I think Honda has really failed with the rear end design.

First official photo of all-new EUDM Honda Civic!!!

As it was expected, the new EUDM Civic's design is an evolution of the current one and this is the first official photo published by Honda. I really like the new rear lights!

Photos of new JDM Honda Civic!!!

This is the new JDM Honda Civic, which will be also sold in Asia. As you can clearly see, there are not huge differences compared to the USDM model, apparent from a different grille at the front, different bumper design and rear lights.

New Honda Civic (USDM) officially revealed

The 9th-gen USDM Honda Civic has been revealed and I am afraid there are no pleasant surprises... Honda claims that the new-gen Civic shares practically nothing with the previous model!

The petrol version will be powered by a 1.8L i-VTEC engine, with a power output of 140 hp, while the hybrid version will be powered by a 1.5L engine coupled to a CVT gearbox. An Li-Ion battery will be used for the first time in a Honda vehicle and the total power output is 110 hp. The sporty Si model will get a new 2.4L engine with 200 hp.

All-new Honda Civic caught undisguised in Japan!!!

The first new Honda Civics have been caught leaving from the Suzuka plant in Japan! Those units are under way to the States and I have to admit that I am seriously disappointed by the design. I think the new Corolla (earlier post) will be much nicer than this...

New 2011 EUDM Honda Civic - launch of every Civic variety within weeks of each other!

So far, we have seen spy shots of both JDM and EUDM Civics, and Honda has even presented two concepts of the USDM 9th-gen Civic at Detroit. The USDM versions will go on sale in April, and apparently, every Civic variety will be launched within weeks  of each other, according to John Mendel, executive vice president of sales for American Honda!!!

Quattroruote magazine has came up with this 'photoshoped' image, giving an impression of how the EUDM model (earlier post) could look like. Well, judging by the spy shots, the overall shape won't change much and it makes sense, since after the "revolutionary" design of the current-gen model, Honda has decided to play it safe.

According to the article, the engines are expected to be the same, meaning that the 2.2 L diesel engine will be on offer, along with the 1.8 L petrol (R18A1) one. I suspect that once again, the hybrid version will be made in Japan and thus Europe will get the JDM Civic Hybrid.

I would like to thank my dear friend, Dimitris, for providing me with this magazine scan!

New Civic Hybrid to be lighter with improved electric drive range

Following the reveal of the Civic concepts at Detroit, which are basically what will be sold in the States in the spring, we are now waiting for more info to come up regarding the JDM and EUDM versions.

The hybrid version of the new Civic will be equipped with a lithium-ion (Li-ion) rechargeable battery. Li-Ion batteries are the next step in terms of battery technology and the Civic Hybrid will be the first Honda to come with one. The battery will be provided by Blue Energy, a joint venture of Honda and GS Yuasa, and according to Tech-On!, production has already started.

The IMA system will be the same as the one used at the moment across the Honda lineup, and the capacity of the battery has not been disclosed yet. However, Honda claims that the new Civic will have improved electric drive range and with the new battery, it is possible to more efficiently harvest electricity by using regenerative braking. As for the self-developed motor, its output is apparently higher than that of the motor used for the Insight and the Fit (10 kW).

The new Civic is going to be lighter than its predecessor, and a larger amount of high-tensile steel will be used.

Honda, pleeeeease bring the coupe in Europe...!!!

Honda Civic coupe and sedan concepts finally presented at Detroit!!!

Finally the waiting is over. Those are the new USDM Civics! Honda just presented two concepts, a coupe and a sedan!!!  They are expected to go on sale in the US in April and those concepts presented at the Detroit Auto Show are pretty much what will go into production... ok, minus the fancy bits and pieces.

Three powertrains will be available, as with the current-gen model: gas, natural gas, and hybrid.

The design of both cars is just an evolution, but the Civic coupe looks really good, better than the current one IMO!!!
