Nissan unveils new global sedan in China called Sunny

Nissan has finally revealed its new global sedan at the 8th Guangzhou Motor Show, which is going to be sold as Sunny (サニー) in China. Sales start in January 2011 and then progressively across 170 countries worldwide under different vehicle brand names.

The Sunny will be powered by a 1.5 L (HR15DE) engine with dual injectors and a new-generation Xtronic CVT with an auxiliary transmission. The new Sunny will be produced in Dongfeng Nissan’s Huadu Plant in Guangzhou and will be priced from RMB 82.8K to 112.8K (1,040,000 - 1,400,000 ¥).

So, we know that we will get this, but is it going to be the proper Tiida (aka Versa) replacement? A hatchback version has been caught during testing (earlier post) and it has a different interior looking more of a likely Golf/Focus competitor than the new Sunny.

New Nissan Sunny (Tiida / Versa?) to come with XTronic CVT

The new Nissan Sunny for the Chinese market has been caught several times and even photos of the production vehicle have been leaked (earlier post). Now, whether the new Tiida / Versa for USDM, JDM and EUDM will be the same car remains unclear in my opinion (earlier post).

Anyway, the Chinese Sunny will be powered by a 1.8L engine and Nissan's XTronic CVT gearbox will be available as well, as Nissan presented in China, the new generation of intelligent XTronic CVT and production will start in April 2011. According to the plan, the Chinese factory will be capable of producing 24 million units/year. The new Sunny will come also with a a Stop & Start system.

New mighty Nissan Sylphy SSS on its way?!

Nissan Bluebird Sylphy (日産シルフィ), codenamed G11, uses Nissan's B platform and it is equipped with the same 1.5L engine as the Nissan Tiida / Versa (HR15DE), as well as the MR20DE (2.0L) engine. Unfortunately though, very few countries get it, besides Japan of course. For us, the Tiida is enough...

Anyway, the specific photo is from a magazine claiming that Nissan will bring back the "SSS" version, which will come with Juke's MR16DET (1.6L) engine. The model shown is the next-gen one, as the current model is totally different, and it makes me wonder whether we  will get this as Tiida's successor and not the Chinese version we have already seen... Check out also my previous post about it.

New Nissan Tiida to come with MR16DET engine

The fact that Nissan will fit the MR16DET engine in the new Nissan Tiida (aka Versa) is no surprise. The Juke also comes with this turbocharged DiG-T engine and so far, the critics about it are good. However, this scan, published by a Japanese magazine almost one month ago, shows a really beefed up Tiida, which is far from what we have seen so far (earlier post).

It makes me wonder whether the Chinese version, called Sunny, will be different from what we will get. In the past, I read that Nissan plans to go head to head with the VW Golf and Ford Focus, but in order to do so, the new model has to be way better than the current model. So, judging from the photos of the upcoming Chinese Sunny, it's definitely not the car for this job... hm, maybe we will get something different...

More leaked images of new Nissan Tiida

We have already seen how the new Tiida (Versa), codenamed L02B, will look like (earlier post) and now it's time for some additional leaked images showing also the interior.

The new Nissan Tiida (Versa)... ?!

The new Nissan Tiida (Versa) was caught during testing in China last week (earlier post) and now those images come again from China. Is this the new Tiida, or Sunny or whatever is going to be called?! If it is, I was hoping for something better...

New Nissan Tiida (Versa) caught during testing

The new Nissan Tiida (Versa) was caught during testing in China and you can see some design elements of it, despite the camouflage. The new model, which has the Sunny logo on it, is going to be equipped with a 1.8L engine, but it's too early to know the spec for each market yet. Anyway, from what is visible, the new model will be miles better than the current one.

Nissan reveals a sketch of the new Tiida (Versa)

Nissan announced today that the next-generation Nissan Versa (sold as Tiida in Europe and Japan) will be sold in the States. The sketch shown above was also revealed.

Now, Nissan has to do much better than the current Tiida if it's serious in selling it in Europe.
